Become a Map Labeler (Data Annotator)
You'll annotate satellite imagery by drawing and correcting map features (buildings, roads, and landcover). Your work helps create accurate digital maps used for navigation, planning, and location services.
What you'll work on
- Building creation: draw building footprints on blank maps.
- Building repair: fix pre-labeled building shapes.
- Road centreline: draw road center lines + measure width.
- Landcover: label land areas by classification.
β¨ Quick overview
π§ What makes a strong labeler?
Consistency
Follow the same rules every time: geometry, tags, and boundary alignment.
Attention to detail
Clean corners, avoid overlaps/gaps (unless instructed), and ensure correct classifications.
Coachability
Use pushback feedback as free training. (It's annoying⦠and very useful.)
Speed + quality balance
Benchmark targets matter, but poor quality can reduce earnings due to rework.
π What the job entails
As a Map Labeler, you'll interpret satellite imagery and convert it into structured map data. You'll draw shapes (polygons/lines) and apply correct classifications so the map matches reality.
𧩠Mapping services (projects)
π’ Building creation
Label buildings and draw their shapes on blank maps.
- Trace roof footprints accurately
- Follow corners/curves cleanly
- Separate adjacent structures correctly
π οΈ Building repair
Correct inaccuracies in pre-labeled building shapes.
- Fix shifted/warped polygons
- Split/merge shapes when needed
- Remove false positives
π£οΈ Road centreline
Draw lines in the middle of roads and measure their width.
- Follow road curvature
- Keep centerline centered
- Set width per instructions
πΏ Landcover project
Label areas of land based on their classification.
- Forest, water, urban, agriculture, etc.
- Use consistent boundaries
- Resolve ambiguous imagery carefully
π Workflow (quality control)
Your work goes through a quality control process before it's approved and paid.
Labeling
You download a task and complete the annotations.
Checking
A checker reviews quality. Substandard work is "pushed back" to you for corrections.
Judging
The work is sent to a higher-level judger for deeper review and consistency.
Reviewing
Finally, a reviewer approves the task and payment is processed.
π Promotion
π How promotions work
High-performing labelers can be promoted to higher-paying roles such as Checker and Judger.
- Consistent accuracy
- Low pushback rate
- Good communication & accountability
πΌ Role expectations
As you move up, the focus shifts from "doing tasks" to "protecting quality across many tasks."
- Checker: review others' work + send actionable feedback
- Judger: resolve edge cases + enforce standards
β Requirements
π₯οΈ Device
Desktop computer or laptop:
- Windows OS 10/11
- 4GB RAM minimum
- 64-bit
πΆ Internet
Stable internet connection recommended for smooth task downloads/uploads.
- Stable connection (avoid frequent drops)
- Consistent speed is better than "fast but unstable"
π§° Helpful extras
Not required, but they help a lot:
- Good mouse (precision matters)
- Large monitor (less zoom fatigue)
- Quiet workspace
π Application process (training)
πΊ Watch the training videos
Take time to watch all videos below (and in the GUIDE tab).
π§ͺ Exams you must complete
Finish the required tasks to qualify:
- 34 tasks β BR (Building Repair exam)
- 18 tasks β LC (Landcover exam)
- 7 tasks β 3DM (3D Matching exam)
After training, your tasks enter QC (Checking β Judging β Reviewing).
π§Ύ Start checklist
- Download Ginger software (Downloads page).
- Log in to the site (Log In demo page here is a placeholder).
- Open Ginger β use UID & password to log in.
- Start your training and finish all required exams.
β¬οΈ Software to download
You'll use Ginger for annotation tasks (labeling, corrections, and QC feedback loops).
π¦ Ginger software
Required tool for all map labeling tasks.
π οΈ Installation tips
- Run the installer as administrator (if needed).
- Keep default installation path unless instructed otherwise.
- If it won't launch, check Windows security/antivirus prompts.
- Log in with your assigned UID and password.
π Apply Now
Message the recruiter and fill up your details in the registration sheet. This helps you get assisted and added to the group chat.

Step 2 β Fill up your details
Use the recruiter name exactly as shown below when filling up the form:
π§ Before you message (helps you get assisted faster)
Have your device ready
Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and stable internet connection.
Be ready for training
You'll complete BR, LC, and 3DM training tasks before production work.
Expect QC feedback
Pushbacks happen. Fix them promptly and learn from checker notes.
πΈ Payment Sample
Standard rate: 75 pesos/hour
The standard rate is 75 pesos per hour but it can change depending on your speed and quality. It varies on how fast or slow you finish tasks. It can increase if you finish faster than the average speed needed per hour, and decrease if not.
ποΈ Sample benchmark table (projects)
Reference: building repair and related tasks.
| Project | Task | Features/layers | Standard Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Building Repair (BR) | 800 | 75 pesos/hour | |
| Filter | 240 | 75 pesos/hour | |
| 3D Matching (3DM) | 60 | 75 pesos/hour |
πΏ Landcover (LC) Project
Benchmarks can vary by density level. The table below shows sample expectations (speed per task β tasks per hour).
| Density level (Features/buildings) | Average speed per task | Task per hour | Standard Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-5 | 60 seconds / 1 minute | 160 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
| 6-10 | 90 seconds / 1.5 minutes | 290 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
| 11-50 | 180 seconds / 3 minutes | 300 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
| 51-100 | 600 seconds / 10 minutes | 400 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
| 101-300 | 1200 seconds / 20 minutes | 600 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
| 300-500 | 1200 seconds / 20 minutes | 1000 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
| 501+ | 1200 seconds / 20 minutes | 1000 bldgs/hr | 75 pesos/hour |
How to use this table
- Use it as a target pace, not a stress test.
- Faster is good only if your quality remains high.
- Repeated pushbacks can reduce effective earnings due to rework time.
π§ Guide / Steps
A clear, repeatable workflow helps you pass training and keep QC ratings strong.
